In my opinion, the next ten years of social media will see a major shift away from public platforms with a focus on more private, AI integrated platforms. More and more people are getting alienated from their current social media experience which is filled with negatively such as disgruntled customers or excessive advertising  feeds. Instead of scrolling through updates from friends, users are moving into smaller, closed off spaces like signal and telegram greater privacy. These include private Discord servers, WhatsApp groups, and community chats. This change means the old way of connecting based on who you know is . It is being replaced by AI tracking tools that analyze algorithms in people’s online behavior. Based on your behavior it will determine what your likes and dislikes. For example, most apps use algorithms to watch how far you watch a video. AI platforms like Revuze which track social media sentiment will become more mainstream. This data allows the app change your feed on instantly as keep you watching. Because of this technology, social media will split into two main categories;private chats comprised of real friends who have similar interests, and completely automated video feeds.

This split will also change the business world by destroying the old marketing models and replacing it with instant shopping apps. In the past, companies used social media just to get people to click a link and visit their website to buy something. Over the next decade, that long process will disappear. Instead, buying a product will happen instantly inside the social media app using one-tap checkouts and live shopping videos. Data from SellersCommerce shows that social shopping has exploded into a multi-trillion dollar global market.  Brands can no longer just buy basic ads or blast the same message to everyone. Instead, software will read a user’s current mood and immediately build custom video or text ads to match their exact feelings. A great example of this is Facebook’s Advantage+ system, which changes an ad’s colors, text, and layout  depending on how fast a user is scrolling. In public relations, this same automated tracking acts as a useful indicator , letting PR teams spot bad reviews or customer anger and fix the issue before it goes viral on Reddit. Marketing will change from general public relations into a precise science of instant sales inside the app.

As these changes take place I predict some of the major tech social media companies will monopolize the internet. Tech giants like Meta and Google have a clear advantage because they have enormous capital and resources to build data centers and integrate AI software to enhance social media. At the same time, apps like TikTok are moving far beyond video, turning into all-in-one tools that people use instead of Google to search and buy products or Amazon to shop. Apps will be able that handle your social feed, text messages, banking, and digital ID all in one. On the other side, a growing group of users who care about privacy will move to decentralized, open networks like Bluesky or Mastodon. These alternative apps allow creators and everyday users to truly own their data and move their followers to different platforms without being locked into a single system.

In conclusion, the next decade will completely change how we use the internet to connect and shop. As public feeds fade away into private group chats and automated video streams, businesses will stop spamming broader audiences. In this new era Success will be determined by brands that use highly sophisticated AI tools to sell products instantly while building genuine relationships in those digital spaces. Ultimately, our digital future will be a balance between massive corporate super-apps and user-owned open networks.
